with the Fundación Jocotoco Model
To make an impact where it really matters and protect species which are being lost at unprecedented rates, scalable models for biodiversity protection are needed.
InvestConservation collaborates with leading conservation groups. One of those is Fundación Jocotoco, which has built a conservation model that is now expanding internationally and InvestConservation will incorporate this proven approach into new projects across global biodiversity hotspots.
In this 8-minute film, Dr. Martin Schaefer, CEO of Fundación Jocotoco and Conservation Director at InvestConservation, shares how more than 30 years of track record and practical expertise in Ecuador—one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, where the Amazon rainforest, the Chocó rainforest and the Pacific coast meet—has built a model that incorporates strategic land purchases to create corridors and buffer national parks. By hiring local communities as rangers and staff, they become empowered stewards of their own landscapes, while innovation in technology and science, including AI analysis of soundscapes, helps measure and strengthen conservation outcomes.
This is a tangible, scalable and data-rich example of landscape-scale conservation that combines species recovery with community engagement that InvestConservation is now helping to apply to other global biodiversity hotspots.
